Wreck kills SoBo man

A single-vehicle wreck claimed the life of Justin Esmond Whitaker, a 23-year-old South Boston man, late Saturday night on Route 96, four-tenths of a mile east of Highway 501 in the Virgilina community.

According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper L. V. Pambid, Whitaker was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger traveling west on Route 96 at 11:16 p.m. when he ran off the road to the right, overcorrected and ran off the road to the left striking several trees.

Whitaker, the only person in the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Whitaker is survived by his mother and stepfather, Tammie Barksdale and Mark Barksdale, and his father, David Whitaker of South Hill.

In addition to his parents, he also leaves two brothers, Dean Satterfield and Darrin Satterfield, and a son, Colton.
