No injuries or charges in Riverdale wreck

No charges were filed, and no one was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck that tied up traffic in the intersection of Highways 360 and 58 in South Boston Monday morning.

According to an accident report filed by Trooper J. R. Abbott, 86-year-old Howard Smith of Halifax was in the left turn lane traveling east on Highway 58 driving a 1997 Ford Aspire.

John Humphries, 54, of Virgilina was driving a 2001 Western Star chip trailer in the right lane and had the option to either go left or straight.

When Humphries turned left, Smith attempted to go straight and drove under the chip trailer.

Abbott estimated damage to the Ford at $1,500, and damage to chip trailer at  $500.

 A 76-year-old Alton woman was charged with following too close in a wreck that occurred Thursday afternoon on State Route 654, one-tenth of a mile north of State Route 659 in the Sinai community.

 According to an accident report filed by Trooper D. T. Spencer, 55-year-old Howard Featherston of Halifax was driving a 1988 Chevrolet pick-up when he stopped for traffic and was struck in the rear by Annie Fuauqry who was driving a 1993 Oldsmobile.

Fuauqry and her passenger, 65-year-old Virginia Wellin, sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. Featherston also sustained minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital.

Spencer estimated damage to the Oldsmobile at $2,500 and damage to the Chevrolet at $1,500.
