Investigation continuing after body found in Virgilina

The body of a 43-year-old Virgilina man has been sent to Richmond for an autopsy after a relative discovered his body lying behind a building near a wooded area off of White Oak Ford Road on Sunday afternoon.

Arthur Ernie Sydnor, who lived alone at 1213 White Oak Fork Road in Virgilina, was last heard from when he spoke with a friend on the telephone Saturday morning, Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark said.

When a relative went to check on him Sunday around 4:30 p.m., the sheriff said she could not find him in the house. It was when she walked to two buildings 50 feet behind the house that she found Sydnor’s lifeless body lying near a wooded area.

Clark said the body showed no visible signs of injury and has been sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Assisting the sheriff’s department at the scene Sunday afternoon were members of the Virginia State Police.

Investigator Jeff Burton is in charge of the investigation that is continuing, Clark said.

“Right now, we really just don’t know what happened to him,” the sheriff said. “We will have to wait for the results of the autopsy.”
