Christian school educator now taking on leadership role

Parent, volunteer and teacher are just a few of the positions that Sarah “Sissie” Lenzen has held at Halifax Christian School (HCS). Now, she is tackling the position of principal.

The Georgia born educator has been with HCS since day one, 17 years ago, and she is very excited to take on the new role.

“I’ve always enjoyed working with the students…and being able to help them in any academics they have,” said Lenzen. “I told my husband a few years ago, it’s time for me to start thinking about retiring, moving on and doing something different, and here I am, principal,” she said.

With her Bachelors of Science in biology and a minor in chemistry from Mercer University, Lenzen has been conducting science labs and projects that grab the attention of the HCS students for the past 15 years.

“I wanted the students here to experience that same kind of zeal and fun that I had in the science lab while in high school and college with being able to have hands on science, so I brought that to the program here at HCS,” she explained.

Halifax Christian school has a lot to offer to not only its students but to parents.

“It is a wonderful school. The children are loved and safe. Zero bullying is tolerated. The students here treat each other like family,” Lenzen said. “We offer the spiritual element. Our day begins and ends in prayer. It is a great school that is family oriented.”

By using the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum, students proceed at a rate that is appropriate for them.

“Every aspect of this curriculum is very strong,” said Lenzen.

In some cases, this curriculum allows high schoolers to graduate six months or even a year earlier than expected, thus giving the student appropriate time to prepare for college or begin classes of higher learning.

The future of Halifax Christian School is one that is bright and green. The school will begin going green this school year by recycling their trash to help the environment. This is just one of the many changes Lenzen has planned for the Christian school.

“It’s the most fun job I have ever had,” she added.

Open house for enrolled students and parents of HCS is scheduled for Aug. 15, and an open house for prospective students is being planned.
