The Halifax Public Library once again will be open on Fridays.
On Tuesday during its regular monthly meeting, the Halifax County-South Boston Library Board unanimously approved reopening the Halifax library branch on Fridays with its previous business hours of 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
According to Library Director Joe Zappacosta, workers already are scheduled to work, and the reopening of the library was made possible by money budgeted from the Town of Halifax.
Board members also discussed possibly hosting a “reopening party” later to inform patrons of the Friday hours being reinstated.
In other business Tuesday, board members approved the 2013-2014 budget.
“This year’s budget is an effort to try and make up and do even better with less,” said Zappacosta.
He also noted circulation is higher than he believes it has ever been.
Library Director and Chairman Bee Espy gave an update on the joint library committee meeting held June 27.
“They want us to look at our long range plan and where we are going to be in 20-30 years,” said Espy.
She asked board members to be thinking it over and be prepared to discuss it at the next meeting. The joint library committee plans to meet again in October.
In other business, Zappacosta reviewed financial and statistical reports, and board members approved a WiFi policy.
The next library board meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 4:30 p.m. at the South Boston Public Library.
