School board expected to adjust budget

Halifax County School Board members will hold a work session Monday at 5 p.m. in the school board conference room prior to their regular scheduled meeting in the public meeting room at 6 p.m.

Director of Operations and Maintenance Larry Roller is expected to present the energy efficiency of school facilities to board members, and Director of Secondary Education/Student Services/Accountability Frosty Owens is expected to give an update on the code of student conduct and parent notifications.

At its regular meeting, board members will hear from Superintendent Dr. Merle Herndon concerning a 2013-2014 budget adjustment.

According to Director of Finance Jay Camp, the budget adjustment is simply to add $110,000 in excess money the county gave to the school system.

In other business Monday, board members are expected to approve a 2013 Virginia School Board Association delegate and alternate to attend the annual convention.

Chairman Kimberly Farson is expected to present the Virginia School Board Association 2013 Media Honor Roll, designate authorization of signatures in absence of the superintendent, and Camp will present the financial report and seek payment of bills.

Prior to adjourning, board members are expected to go into closed session to discuss personnel and student discipline.
