For the first time in the history of the event, this year’s 4th of July celebration in Scottsburg has been cancelled after excessive rains rendered the parking area surrounding the event unusable, organizers said.
The event has not been rescheduled, said Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Chief Jay Reese, who said more rains are forecast before the weekend that will only make the parking situation worse.
“We have had to postpone it before, but this is the first time we have ever had to cancel our July 4th event,” Reese said Wednesday morning after the decision was announced.
