Sunday night wreck claims life of Roxboro resident

A 55-year-old Roxboro, N.C., man was killed in a single-vehicle wreck Sunday night on State Route 601 (Buckshoal Road), a half mile east of State Route 730 in the Virgilina community.

According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper A. D. Dishman, Sherman M. Ulysses was driving a 2001 Dodge Dakota when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a fence and a tree. 

Ulysses was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Dishman estimated damage to the Dodge at $5,000.

A 23-year-old Vernon Hill man was charged with following too close in a wreck that occurred Friday on Highway 360 (Mountain Road), 207 feet east of State Route 926.

According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper P. W. Leath, Shawn M. Lloyd was driving a 1981 Toyota pickup when he struck in the rear a 1993 Chevrolet S10 driven by 84-year-old Roy W. Jones of South Boston. 

Lloyd then ran off the right side of the road and came to rest in a field.

 No one was injured.

Leath estimated damage to the Toyota at $1,100 and damage to the Chevrolet at $1,700.

A 56-year-old Roxboro, N. C. woman was charged with reckless driving/failure to maintain proper control in a wreck that occurred Monday morning on Highway 501, two-tenths of a mile north of State Route 704.

According to an accident report filed by Leath, Bonnie T. Smith was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro when she ran off the left side of the road and struck a guardrail.

No one was injured.

Leath estimated damage to the Camaro at $1,400.

A 17-year-old Alton male was charged with defective equipment following a three-vehicle wreck that occurred Friday afternoon on Huell Matthews Highway, one fourth of a mile north of Bill Tuck Highway.

According to an accident report filed by South Boston Police Officer J. B. Throckmorton, 23-year-old Elizabeth A. Deal of Virgilina was driving a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser, the juvenile was driving a 1999 Toyota Tacoma, and 59-year-old Catherine G. Younger of Halifax, was driving a 2002 Ford van, all traveling north on Huell Matthews Highway, when Deal stopped to make a left turn. Deal was struck from behind by the juvenile who was rear ended by Younger.

No one was injured.

Throckmorton estimated damage to the PT Cruiser at $2,000, and damage to both the Toyota and the Ford at $1,000 each.
