School board candidate running to be more involved with community

Education has always been important to Ida Terry of Scottsburg.

Terry has picked up her packet and is actively seeking signatures to run for the ED2 school board seat in November.

According to Terry, she recently decided to run for school board because she wants to be more involved with the community.

“It all began when they were denied LORP,” Terry said referring to when Halifax County School Board members terminated retirees’ Local Optional Retirement Plan.

That’s when she said she began to become concerned.

Terry wants to be a voice for all the people in the community, not just in her district.

With full support from her family and church family of St. Matthew Baptist Church in Clover, she said she has plenty of time to focus on the task at hand.

Terry will face incumbent ED-2 trustee Karen Hopkins who is seeking a second term and newcomer Lisa Hatcher of Scottsburg in the November election.

Potential candidates have until Tuesday to qualify to have their names placed on the Nov. 5 ballot.
