Scottsburg resident announces candidacy for school board seat

Lisa Hatcher of Scottsburg recently picked up a packet and announced her decision to seek the school board seat in election district 2.

She now is securing signatures to have her name placed on the Nov. 5 ballot.

Hatcher said Friday that after praying and discussing her decision with her family, she feels it is the right time in her life for her to run for school board.

“We need a change. I’ve thought long and hard, and I’ve prayed about this,” said Hatcher.

Hatcher, who will have a daughter entering the ninth grade in the fall, said if elected she hopes to make the teachers a priority because “that’s where it starts.
”We have to reward our educators…the morale among the teachers is way down low. I want us to be united and work together. That’s my goal,” Hatcher said.

ED-2 trustee Karen Hopkins announced last month she will not seek reelection to the post she has held for the past four years.

Candidates have until Tuesday, June 11, to qualify to have their names placed on the Nov. 5 ballot.
