School board chair officially announces re-election plans

Halifax County School Board Chairman Kimberly Farson is actively collecting signatures that will get her name on the November ballot to run for re-election.

Farson announced Tuesday she has decided to run for a second four-year term because she enjoys working with the people on the board and would like to see what direction the school system can go in with the new superintendent, Dr. Merle Herndon.

“I’m a big advocate of smaller schools. My heart’s with all the schools, but I’m really attached with the smaller community schools, and I want them to continue to grow with enrollment,” she said.

Another reason she’s seeking re-election is to insure staff get the raise they deserve, added Farson.

ED-6 school board member Fay Satterfield also has announced her re-election bid, and ED-2 trustee Karen Hopkins announced she will not run again for school board.

As of press time Tuesday, no one has come forward to pick up a school board packet in ED-2.

Candidates have until Tuesday, June 11, to qualify to have their names placed on the Nov. 5 ballot.
