The Halifax County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a workshop titled “Campaign 2013: Candidate Overview” on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, Hope Classroom. The workshop is being offered for people who are thinking about running for public office.
ED-4 Supervisor Doug Bowman will speak on “Civic Engagement and the Role as a Public Servant.” Halifax County Voter Registrar Judy Meeler will review the State Board of Elections candidate paperwork.
Dr. Martha Walker, community viability specialist, Virginia Cooperative Extension, will provide an overview of the region and present “A Candidate’s Campaign.”
On Nov. 5, three seats on the board of supervisors, three seats on the school board, the commonwealth’s attorney, mayor of South Boston, a seat on the South Boston Town Council and Halifax Town Council are up for election.
The chamber is offering this workshop at no charge in an effort to help people understand the campaign process and what it means to be a public servant, according to Chamber President Nancy Pool.
Reservations are required, although there is no charge.
