Blaze damages house in SoBo

A fire that originated in the basement of a house located at 807 Traver Avenue in South Boston is being blamed for causing $18,000 in damage.

According to Dwight Spangler of the South Boston Fire Department, 13 firefighters on three trucks responded to a report of a house fire at the home of the Howard Trent family at 10:24 p.m. Thursday. 

Halifax Volunteer Fire Department assisted the South Boston firefighters in using a handline to extinguish the basement fire.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 11:08 p.m. bringing the fire under control.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined, Spangler said.
