People living near the NOVEC Energy Production Biomass facility now under construction off Plywood Trail in South Boston may temporarily hear some loud noises coming from the plant beginning today.
According to Logan Young, NOVEC public relations spokesperson, construction will near completion over the next several weeks with the facility undergoing various equipment and systems start-up and commissioning activities.
Included among them will be the commissioning of the biomass furnace and steam drum scheduled to begin today.
“Over the course of the next three weeks residents in the immediate vicinity of the plant site may hear the intermittent releases of steam at noise levels elevated above normal operation,” Young said.
Upon completion of these activities, pipes will be restored to operating standard, and noise abatement equipment will be fitted on the steam drum.
Meanwhile, in the interest of public concern, the owner, developer and general contractor of the facility want the public to be aware of the tests and that the elevated noise level will be temporary in nature, Young added.
The South Boston Energy Center fuel yard has been under construction for the past 17 months.
