3-year-old Nathalie child killed in freak accident

A 3-year-old Nathalie child died Wednesday night following a freak accident that occurred at a residence on Pierce’s Trail, just off lower Liberty Road.

According to Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark, Caleb Andrew Miller was riding on a Bobcat with his father and another child while hauling wood to the house when the Bobcat “hit a bump” knocking the child to the ground.

The father was unable to stop the Bobcat before it ran over the child, the sheriff said.

First responders from North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department and Liberty Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene along with Sheriff Clark, Investigator Jeff Burton and Deputies T. B. Sargent and Joey Adams.

“First responders worked so hard to revive the little boy. They did an outstanding job attempting to revive him after the accident,” Clark said.

The child was transported to Halifax Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

“Our sympathy goes out to the family during this time,” Clark said.

He also expressed appreciation to the numerous volunteers who responded and tried to revive the 3-year-old at the scene.

A funeral for Caleb Andrew Miller will be held at the Daniel Coblenz residence Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with burial to follow in the Amish Cemetery at Hunting Creek.
