Fire destroys barns

Two barns were destroyed Tuesday afternoon in a fire at 1136 Monroe Trail in Scottsburg.

Monroe Junior Martin owned the barns.

Clover Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call of a barn on fire around 3 p.m. and were assisted by four other county fire departments and Halifax County Forestry.

According to Clover Firefighter Roger Hazelwood, Halifax Volunteer Fire Department arrived with two trucks and five men, Triangle Fire Department arrived on the scene with two trucks and three men, Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department arrived  with one truck and two men and Bacon District Volunteer Fire Department in Charlotte County arrived with two trucks and eight men to extinguish  the two barns engulfed in flames.

As of press time, Emergency Services Coordinator Kirby Saunders was continuing an investigation into the cause of the fire.

No one was injured in the blaze.
