Wintry weather conditions are possible across portions of the state Friday, including in the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation.

VDOT crews will monitor conditions and apply chemicals and/or abrasives, as appropriate to assist with melting and traction, according to VDOT spokesperson Paula Jones.

If travel is necessary during the storm, motorists should check current road conditions by calling 511 or visiting www.511Virginia.org before venturing out. In addition, drivers should pay particular attention to bridges, overpasses, ramps, and shady spots where ice may form first.

The Lynchburg District covers the counties of Halifax, Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.
