Fire leaves four homeless

A Sunday afternoon trailer fire has left a South Boston family of four homeless.

Shauna Ferrell and three young children had been living in the singlewide mobile home located at 719 Lincoln Drive and owned by David White of Gravitt Street in South Boston, according to South Boston Fire Chief Steve Phillips.

However, no one was at home Sunday afternoon when the fire was reported.

“The trailer was fully involved when we arrived on the scene,” said Phillips. “A lot of fire involvement was coming from the middle of the trailer.

South Boston Fire Department responded to the fire shortly after 4:30 p.m. with three trucks and 17 firefighters and received assistance from 10 Halifax volunteer firefighters who arrived with two trucks, Phillips said.

Firemen remained on the scene until 6:10 p.m. bringing the blaze under control.

No cause has been determined, and no one was injured, the fire chief said.

The Red Cross is assisting Ferrell and the children, according to Halifax County Chapter Red Cross Executive Director Ginger Weaver.
