A 21-year-old South Boston woman was charged with failure to yield the right of way following a two-vehicle wreck that occurred Monday at 3:22 p.m. on James D. Hagood Highway (Highway 360) at the intersection of Clover Road (Route 92).
According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper D. H. Hess, Kaila Lyshae Miller was driving a 1999 Ford Mustang when she pulled out of Route 92 traveling across Highway 360 to State Route 720 into the path of a fully-loaded 1996 International logging truck driven by 48-year-old William Martin Hess of Scottsburg.
The logging truck, which was traveling east on Highway 360, was owned by Nelson Logging Co. Inc., of Oxford, N.C., according to the accident report.
Miller, who was not wearing a seat belt, was injured along with a 16-year-old passenger in the Mustang. Both were transported to Halifax Regional Hospital for treatment.
Hess was not injured, according to the report.
The trooper estimated damage to the Mustang as a total loss and $15,000 damage to the International logging truck.
A hazardous materials crew was called to the scene to clean up approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled from the logging truck after the wreck occurred.
