South Boston Manor, the nursing home located behind Halifax Regional Hospital, will soon close its doors leaving 40 residents looking for another place to live and 60 employees searching for jobs.
“We’re waiting for the official letters at this point,” South Boston Manor Administrator Donald Liegey said after an Epic Group Limited vice president notified employees last Tuesday of its plans to close the South Boston resident home.
The nursing home is located behind Halifax Regional Hospital on Oak Lane.
Epic Group is the company that manages South Boston Manor, one of 15 nursing facilities under its management in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
“We have stated ‘we’re closing,’ but we haven’t received any official notice,” Liegey said.
The residency administrator said he was unsure when the official word would come to the South Boston facility but said the letter would explain the reason for its closing.
When asked if he knew the reason, Liegey responded, “Yes, but I am not at liberty to say. The notice will give the explanation.”
Liegey said he was unsure whether a management representative would travel to South Boston this week to lay out plans for closing the facility.
“It may be the week after next,” he added.
In the meantime, the administrator said he and other employees are working with families of the 40 residents to make placement arrangements at other long-term care facilities in the area.
