Saxe teen charged with hit and run

A 19-year-old Saxe man was charged with hit and run after he fled the scene of an accident that occurred Monday afternoon on State Route 654, one-tenth of mile north of State Route 659 in South Boston.

According to an accident report filed by State Trooper J. R. Abbott, Jonathan W. Wells was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe when he ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and crossed the center line striking a 1993 Toyota Tercel driven by 55-year-old Jonathan W. Barksdale of Halifax.

Wells was not injured, but Barksdale and his passenger, 75-year-old Lizzie Barksdale, sustained minor injuries.  She was transported to the hospital by EMS.

Barksdale was charged with driving on a suspended license.

Abbott estimated damage to the Toyota at $2,000, and damage to the Chevrolet at $3,500.

A 26-year-old South Boston man was charged with reckless driving/failure to maintain proper control following a wreck that occurred Tuesday afternoon on State Route 654, one mile south of State Route 678, in Halifax.

According to an accident report filed by State Trooper D. T. Spencer, Cecil M. Cameron was driving a 1991 Jeep Cherokee when he ran off the right side of the road and struck an electric pole belonging to Dominion Power.

Cameron was not injured.

According to a Dominion Power spokesperson, four customers lost power that was restored two hours later.

Spencer estimated damage to the Jeep at $1,500.
