Missing man found behind barn

A 75-year-old missing Scottsburg man who suffers from a medical condition was found wandering behind a barn on Guill Town Road in Scottsburg shortly after he was reported missing Thursday morning.

According to Halifax County Sheriff Fred Clark, Mason David Snead was reported missing by his niece around 9:30 Thursday morning.

He had last been seen with his bird dog, Brownie, on the side of Guill Town Road around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Clark said.

Capt. David Martin, Cpl. Seth Bowen, Investigator Crystal Yeatts, Deputy Chuck Bates V and Sheriff Clark searched for Snead using a 4-wheeler to make their way to the area Snead was last seen.

After speaking to a neighbor who told authorities Snead sometimes walked behind the house near a barn, officers went to the barn located 1,000 yards behind the house where they found “Brownie” who led authorities to Snead.

“We started calling for him, and he came out from behind the barn,” Clark said. “Other than being cold and wet, he told us he wasn’t injured.”

EMS transported Snead to the hospital where he was being treated at press time Thursday.
