Authorities are investigating the cause of a Sunday evening fire that heavily damaged a one and a half story frame house on College Street, according to South Boston Fire Chief Steve Phillips.
Phillips said three trucks and 19 personnel from his fire department and two trucks and approximately 12 personnel from Halifax Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at 1401 College Street in South Boston at 7:21 p.m. Sunday evening.
The house is owned by Elvira Carden, according to Phillips.
Firemen were on the scene for approximately two hours, the chief said, adding no one was in the house at the time of the fire.
The house, which had electricity, was valued at $70,000 with the fire causing an estimated $40,000 in damage, Phillips said.
No one was hurt fighting the fire, the chief added.
