An investigation continues into the cause of a Saturday evening fire that totally destroyed a single-story dwelling in the Cluster Springs community, according to Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Harris.
Harris said a passerby called 911 at 10 p.m. Saturday evening to report the fire at a dwelling located at 7238 Huell Matthews Highway.
Three trucks and 12 personnel from Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department and three trucks and 10 personnel from Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department were on the scene until 2 a.m., Harris said.
He estimated $100,000 damage to the dwelling and its contents and declared the doublewide dwelling a total loss.
The fire chief added there was no electricity to the dwelling at the time of the fire, and he could not confirm who, if anyone, was living there at the time of the blaze.
No one was hurt fighting the fire, Harris said, and Halifax County Emergency Services and Virginia State Police have begun an investigation into the cause of the blaze, he added.
