Crash wreaks havoc on Seymour Drive

Seymour Drive from Marshall Avenue to Ellyson Avenue was closed for hours Sunday, and traffic was detoured following a single-vehicle wreck that occurred at 7:15 a.m.

According to South Boston Police Cpl. M. W. Bowen, 19-year-old Deandre L. Crowder lost control of the 2002 Chrysler mini van he was driving headed east on Seymour Drive and ran off the right side of the road.

Crowder struck a utility pole at Traver Avenue, breaking it into three pieces.

Bowen charged Crowder with reckless driving/failure to maintain proper control of the vehicle.

At the time of the wreck, some Dominion Power customers in the area lost power, Bowen said.

Total damage was estimated at $25,000.
