Paraprofessionals terminated after high school fight

Following a closed session meeting on personnel issues Thursday night, Halifax County School Board members unanimously approved the termination of two paraprofessionals who were involved in an altercation Wednesday at Halifax County High School.

Joanna Barksdale, 39, of Halifax and Yakima Claughton, 40, of South Boston were both charged with disorderly

conduct after South Boston Police officers responded to a fight in progress on the third floor of the Halifax County High School.

Superintendent Paul Stapleton said, “We will not tolerate that behavior from our employees. It was dealt with immediately.”

According to Capt. B.K. Lovelace, South Boston Police officers escorted both employees off the premises, and no students were involved or injured during the altercation.
