Sutherlin woman dies three days after collision

A 60-year-old Sutherlin woman was transported to Halifax Regional Hospital and later taken to Duke University Medical Center for injuries she sustained in a three-vehicle wreck that occurred Tuesday morning at the intersection of Highway 58 and State Route 658 in Turbeville.

According to an accident report filed by investigating State Trooper D. H. Hess, Pheaba Goode was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the 2001 Hyundai Accent she was driving after she failed to yield the right of way and pulled from State Route 658 into Highway 58.

Goode’s Hyundai was struck in the side by a 2002 Dodge Neon driven by 29-year-old Jesse R. Rogers of Nathalie.

Family members said Goode died Friday at Duke University Medical Center.

Rogers, who was wearing his seatbelt, sustained minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital, Hess said.

Flying debris from the wreck damaged a 2011 Chevrolet Colorado belonging to Ean Holdings, LLC of Rockville, Md. that was parked across the road, according to the accident report.

Damage to the Hyundai was estimated at $4,500, damage to the Dodge was estimated at $4,500, and damage to the Chevrolet was estimated at $800, the report stated.
