Nathalie teenager killed in Saturday accident

A 17-year-old Nathalie juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle accident that occurred Saturday night on a private graveled drive located off State Route 603 (Lennig Road) in Nathalie.

According to investigating State Trooper S. M. Krantz, the wreck occurred at 9:03 p.m. when the juvenile failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the left shoulder of the road flipping the 2001 Chevrolet sedan four times before striking a tree.

Krantz said when he arrived on the scene, he observed the Chevrolet resting on its left side with the bottom of the vehicle against a large tree.

The juvenile, who Krantz declined to identify, was partially ejected.

After conducting an on-scene investigation and talking with witnesses, Krantz said speed is believed to be a factor in the accident.

The juvenile driver was not wearing a seatbelt, he added.

A juvenile passenger in the vehicle was wearing his seatbelt and walked away without any injuries, Krantz said.

Damage to the Chevrolet was estimated at $5,000, a total loss, Krantz said.
