Halifax native to appear on CSI: NY

Halifax native Laura Parker will make her prime time debut on CBS’ hit show CSI: NY at 8 p.m. Friday.

Parker, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Parker Jr. of Halifax, moved to Los Angeles in 2010 after graduating from Harvard University’s MFA program in Acting at the American Repertory Theatre/Moscow Theatre Institute for Advanced Theater Training.

According to her father, she will appear in the second episode of Season 9 titled “Where There’s Smoke.” She will play the young mother of the villain.

“Her first television appearance was on Spike TV’s ‘1000 Ways to Die’ in 2011,” said Parker.

She recently completed filming this summer for a supporting role in “Mucho Dinero,” a comedy feature film written and directed by Blake Freeman. In the film, she plays the secretary of the leading man-Casper Van Dien, who is known for his role in “Starship Troopers.” The film is expected to premiere in 2013.

Parker also will perform on stage next month in the West Coast debut of “The Escape Artist’s Children,” a full-length comedy by Steve Harper. Harper is an award winning playwright and writer for the TV show “Covert Affairs.” The play was a winner of the New Professional Theatre Writers’ Festival in 2009, said Parker.

“Laura is excited to be playing the role of Sheri, who is 9 months and 4 days pregnant,” said Parker.

Parker currently resides in West Los Angeles.
