SoBo library reopens on Wednesdays

The South Boston Public Library will welcome the community back to the library on Wednesdays starting Sept. 26, announced Library Director Joe Zappacosta.

Recently the library has been closed Wednesdays due to budget cuts and the increases in cost of operation.

Reopening the library comes on the heels of South Boston Town Council making the generous decision to provide the library with additional funds for the current fiscal year, Zappacosta said.

In response to a recent poll conducted by a library board appointed committee, the South Boston Public Library is now open additional evening  hours, and the Saturday hours have been increased at both libraries, he added.

With the extra time, South Boston Public Library will hold “Family Fun Times” on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.

“The library invites kids and their parents to the library for activities, games and fun,” Zappacosta said referring patrons to the library’s website at or they can pick up a copy of the newsletter.

The South Boston Public Library will be open Monday, Wednesday and
Friday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
