Authorities clean up diesel spill in Halifax

Firefighters with Halifax Volunteer Fire Department, Virginia Department of Transportation employees and Halifax County Deputy T.  H. Clarke, who was working for the Halifax Police Department, responded to a diesel spill Tuesday afternoon in front of Hardees’s on Main Street in Halifax.

According to Halifax Firefighter H. C. Phillips, seven firefighters along with five Virginia Department of Transportation workers cleaned up the spill around 2 p.m.

Phillips said the state hazmat department was en route to the scene Tuesday afternoon.

Workers used eight bags of speedy dry on the spill, Phillips said.

The cause of the spill is undetermined, Phillips said.
