Well-known Halifax farmer dies from medical emergency

A well-known Halifax farmer suffered a medical emergency Tuesday afternoon at his farm on Clays Mill Road and was found unresponsive by his son.

Ted Owen had stepped off his tractor before suffering a medical emergency, authorities said.

Members of the Halifax Volunteer Fire Department, Halifax County Rescue Squad and Halifax County Sheriff’s Department responded to 2200 Clays Mill Road after receiving a report of a Halifax man in his 70s had fallen off a tractor Tuesday afternoon.

Owen’s son, Danny, found his father unresponsive near the tractor and notified emergency officials.

Owen was well-known for operating a petting zoo that many local elementary school students had opportunities to visit during class field trips.

Owen is survived by his wife, Hollis, and children, Danny Owen and Janet Henderson.

Brooks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
