School board to go behind closed doors to talk personnel issues

Halifax County Public School Board members will hold a special called meeting Thursday at 4 p.m. in the school board office conference room with their attorney Craig Woods of Charlottesville to discuss personnel issues.

According to School Board Vice chairman Kimberly Farson, board members Roger Long, R.K. “Dick” Stoneman, Fay Satterfield and Phyllis Smith requested the meeting.

“It’s board policy that anytime two or more board members request a meeting, it has to be honored,” said Farson.

During the closed session, Farson said she expects legal issues regarding personnel to be the topic of discussion.

“There will be no talk of school business or talks about cuts, just legal issues concerning personnel. There’s a state code about reporting the severance package of the superintendent, and we have a June 30 deadline. We’re hoping to clear that up and meet the deadline so we stay legal,” said Farson.
