Halifax County Public Schools has yet to fill the chief financial officer position being vacated by Bill Covington on June 30.
After making a recommendation to the Halifax County School Board on May 14 that was declined, committee members decided to expand their search for Covington’s replacement.
Interviews with new applicants began Wednesday, according to Executive Director for Administration Valdivia Marshall who serves on the interview committee with two others including Donna Henderson of the finance department and Division Attendance Officer Frank Lee.
“We brought in seven individuals for interviews. Some were local and some were from out of our district,” said Marshall.
“My goal is make some recommendations to the new superintendent as soon as she takes office on July 2, maybe narrow it down to two or three candidates,” she added.
Approximately 23 individuals have applied for the chief financial position with Halifax County Public Schools.
