Halifax County Industrial Development Authority hosted a trio of staffers from China’s LENS magazine Wednesday afternoon treating them to a lunch at Molasses Grill.
Authority Project Manager Jeff Reed coordinated the Chinese delegation’s visit to the county, part of an effort to showcase Virginia to the Chinese business community.
The visit comes after the Virginia Economic Development Partnership committed to a 12-page spread in LENS Magazine.
Spending time in the county Wednesday were LENS Editorial Director Lou Jun, Director of Operations Angela Zou and Editor and Chief Man Fa.
Zou described LENS magazine as a business magazine circulated more than 300,000 in China.
The Virginia Partnership is sponsoring the trio in a 10-day tour of the commonwealth accompanied by Roy Dahlquist, Asian project manager for the Virginia Economic Development Partnership.
While in the county Wednesday, the trio had a chance to tour Virginia International Raceway and ended their trip with a luncheon at Molasses Grill. Attending the lunch were authority staff and board members as well as other prominent members of the business community.
This was a chance for them to showcase Southside Virginia from both a business and cultural aspect, Reed said.
During the lunch the trio collected business cards and mingled with guests.
Although they were able to speak some English, local ABB engineer Fei Yang served as the translator for the group.
Reed presented the trio with gifts to take back to China, and the trio gave copies of their magazine to those attending the lunch.
Also this week, the Chinese delegation was scheduled to visit other areas of the commonwealth including Williamsburg where they were to have dinner with the Secretary of Commerce and Trade.
