Fire destroys vacant South Boston home

An early Saturday morning blaze destroyed a vacant two-story wood frame house on Spring Avenue in South Boston.

According to a South Boston Fire Department spokesman, firefighters found the house, owned by Lacy Brace, fully involved when they arrived on the scene at 1818 Spring Ave. shortly after 2 a.m.

“Fire was coming from each side of the house,” the spokesman said.

A total of 25 firefighters from South Boston, Halifax, Turbeville and Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire departments spent over three hours on the scene before bringing the blaze under control.

Also called to the scene was South Boston’s ladder truck and Halifax Rescue Squad.

No one was injured in the fire that remains under investigation, the spokesman said.
