VDOT sets public meeting on proposed Halifax bridge replacement

Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing to gather comments on the proposed replacement of the Route 49 (Clarksville Road) bridge that crosses Aarons Creek in Halifax County.

The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Cluster Springs Elementary School, 7091 Huell Matthews Highway (Route 501) in Alton. 

The project’s estimated cost is $3.1 million and is subject to change as the project’s design is developed. Construction advertisement is currently scheduled for 2014.

Project plans and environmental documents, as well as right of way and easement information, will be available for review at the public hearing, as well as at VDOT’s Lynchburg District Office located at 4219 Campbell Ave. Lynchburg, VA 24501.  Call ahead to ensure that personnel are available to answer questions.

VDOT staff will be available during the hearing to discuss the project and answer questions. Written and oral comments will be taken at the hearing. Written comments can also be submitted by June 1, to Daniel Brown, Project Manager, 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
