The 61st annual observance of the National Day of Prayer was held Thursday night at Halifax County High School.
Organizers estimate a crowd of between 900 to 1,000 people attended the evening of prayer that featured testimony, song, dance and recognitions.
Prayers were offered for the seven centers of power including family, military, media, business, church, education and government. The highlight of the evening was a performance by Gospel singer, Hee Haw star, comedienne and Hall of Famer LuLu Roman.
The theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer was “One Nation Under God.” Its inspiration is taken from Psalm 33:12: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”
Organizers are already making plans for next year’s event, and those interested in contributing to the National Day of Prayer can make checks payable to Halifax County Prayer Day, P.O. Box 885, Halifax, VA 24558.
