Halifax County taxes in the mail

Halifax County 2012 real estate tax bills were mailed out this week, Halifax County Treasurer Linda S. Foster said Thursday.

State Code of Virginia requires bills be mailed not later than 14 days prior to the due date of the taxes, Foster said, and taxes are due June 5.

Postmarks dated June 5 will be accepted without further charges on the first installment or on any payments that may be made in full.

The second installment coupon payment will be due on Dec. 5, Foster said.

No bills will be mailed out on the second installment.

Any taxpayer who did not receive a bill on real estate taxes assessed Jan. 1 should call the county treasurer’s office at 434-476-3318.

Any new landowners after Jan. 1 should call if they did not receive a bill, she added.

Any questions on assessment value or change of address can be directed to the commissioner of revenue’s office at 434-476-3314, Foster said.

Taxpayers are asked to mail their check or money order with payment coupon to the Halifax County Treasurer, P. 0. Box 825, Halifax, VA 24558.

Payments also may be made in person at the office in the Mary Bethune Office Complex located at 1030 Cowford Road in Halifax between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Taxpayers can make payments over the counter using most major credit/debit cards for a nominal fee.

Also taxpayers can use major credit/debit cards to make payments on line at WebFeePay.com by entering bill numbers, category of tax and phone number when using online payment, Foster said.
