Two teens seriously injured in Sunday wreck

An 18-year-old Vernon Hill teenager was airlifted to Duke University Medical Center and a 18-year-old Halifax teen was transported to Halifax Regional Hospital following a single-vehicle wreck that occurred in the 4000 block of Cluster Springs Road in Alton around 4 p.m. Sunday.

According to Virginia State Trooper D. H. Hess, Jessica Terry, a passenger in the vehicle, was seriously injured and flown from the scene after being thrown from the vehicle that overturned multiple times.

Due to mechanical difficulties, a second helicopter was unavailable to fly to the scene for a second patient, Meghan Weatherford of Halifax, who was transported to Halifax Regional Hospital immediately following the wreck.

Weatherford was driving a late model Ford Mustang when she lost control, swerved off the right side of the road, overcorrected and came down an embankment.

The vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest on its top, according to Hess.

Both the driver and passenger in the vehicle apparently were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the Mustang, according to the investigating officer.

No further details were available at press time Sunday.
