Alton man dies following Tuesday morning crash

An 84-year-old Alton man died following a single-vehicle wreck that occurred Tuesday morning in the 4000 block of Cluster Springs Road in South Boston.

According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper L. V. Pambid, Walter Trickey Jr. was driving a 1987 Chevrolet S10 when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a culvert.

The investigating officer said he was unsure whether the death was a result of a medical condition or the wreck.

Trickey’s body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office in Richmond to determine the cause of death.

Pambid declared the Chevrolet a total loss.

A 39-year-old Blue Ridge man was charged with improper passing following a two-vehicle wreck that occurred Friday evening on State Route 832, one fourth of a mile south of White Oak Trail.

According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper G. K. Brandes, 35-year-old Olivia O. Epps of Halifax was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe when she turned left into a driveway and was struck in the rear by a 2000 Ford pickup driven by Daniel L. Hatter who tried to pass her.

No one was injured.

Brandes estimated damage to the Ford at $2,000 and damage to the Chevrolet at $1,500.

A 27-year-old Brookneal man was charged with reckless driving/failure to maintain proper control following a single-vehicle wreck that occurred Saturday morning on State Route 644, one-tenth of a mile south of State Route 641 in Nathalie.

According to an accident report filed by Virginia State Trooper D. H. Hess, 27-year-old Brandon J. Walthall of Brookneal was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer and was unable to navigate the curve. He ran off the left side of the road, struck a fence and overturned into a vineyard.

Walthall was not injured. 

Hess estimated damage to the Ford at $1,500 and damage to the fence owned by Shirley Archer at $2,000.

No one was hurt or charged in a single-vehicle wreck that occurred Saturday on Old Grubby Road, 300 feet south of Knollwood Lane.

 According to an accident report filed by Virginia Sate Trooper B. L. Crews, Zyikeria J. Roberts was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu when she swerved to miss a deer, ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree and overturned on its top. 

Crews estimated damage to the Malibu at $5,500.
