Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts recently presented its Legislator of the Year Award to Senator Frank Ruff of Mecklenburg County.
This award is given based on the support a legislator has given to the association as they work to protect the waters of Virginia from runoff of top soil, nutrients and chemicals.
The award was presented at the association’s annual gathering, held this year in Williamsburg. Elected Soil and Water officials from around Virginia were present as well as directors and other employees.
Ruff thanked those present for the award saying, “While I am honored with this recognition, more importantly I want to thank all of those who work so hard to protect our waterways. I believe that the resources spent by the Soil and Water districts around the state are the most efficiently used dollars that Virginia spends to protect our environment.”
He added, “Those involved with the program serve a significant role in teaching communities how to best protect their land for the next generation. We all owe them our thanks.”
Ruff represents the 15th Senate District that stretches from the western parts of Danville and Pittsylvania County to the eastern part of Prince George County. This includes all of Charlotte, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg and Nottoway counties, as well as parts of Brunswick, Campbell, Dinwiddie and Halifax counties.
