Somerset seeking expansion, applies for rezoning request

Somerset Assisted Living Facility wants to expand, but to do so, it must apply for rezoning from the town, and its request to rezone will be the topic of discussion at Monday night’s South Boston Town Council work session.

The meeting is set to get underway at 5:45 p.m. at council chambers on Yancey Street.

The operators of Somerset, DECCA Group LLC and LGCK Inc., have made a request to rezone tax parcel 29112 and a two-acre portion of tax parcel 5285 from R-1 Density Residential District to B-2 General Business District.

Rezoning would allow the expansion of Somerset Assisted Living Facility, located at 435 Hamilton Boulevard in South Boston.

Nursing homes and convalescent homes are a permitted use in B-2 Districts.

Council’s current issues committee will take up discussion of the request upon a recommendation from the South Boston Planning Commission.

Other items up for discussion tonight include a request for funding from the Virginia Coalition, appointments to the Lake Country Development Corporation and the monthly financial report.

Council is expected to go into closed session at the end of Monday night’s meeting to discuss a potential real estate acquisition.
