Dog tags for 2013 needs to be on dogs in the county by Feb. 1, said Halifax County Treasurer Linda S. Foster.
In order to purchase tags, owners need to bring valid dog rabies vaccination certificates issued by a licensed veterinarian.
Any dog owners with questions regarding expiration dates on certificates are asked to call the treasurer’s office at 434-476-3318.
Dogs that are 4 months of age need to be vaccinated and tagged, Foster said, adding, tags must be purchased each year.
State law pertaining to any violations are handled through the Animal Control Office.
Dog owners can purchase regular tags for $5 each at the county treasurer’s office in the Mary Bethune office complex in Halifax.
Owners may also mail in original vaccination certificates with fee to the Halifax County Treasurer’s Office, P. O. Box 825, Halifax, VA 24558.
Dog tags and vaccination papers will be mailed back to the owners, Foster said.
Kennel tags are also sold in Halifax. A 20-dog kennel is $40 and 20 plus kennel is $50.
The treasurer’s office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
