School board to hold ‘interesting meeting’ Monday

Halifax County School Board members will meet at 4 p.m. Monday for a special called meeting in the school board conference room at Superintendent Dr. Merle Herndon’s request.

The purpose of the meeting, Herndon said, is to further discuss personnel and central office reorganization.

“It’s going to be an interesting meeting,” said Herndon.

Herndon wasted no time making moves earlier this month when she transferred former Director of Instruction Dr. Melanie Stanley to the Halifax County High School to serve as assistant principal due to her lack of “school-based experience.”

In the same week she transferred former Halifax County Middle School Principal Beverly Crowder to central office, her position will be decided at the special called meeting today.

According to Herndon, top candidates for the principal positions at Sinai Elementary, Scottsburg Elementary and Halifax County Middle will be presented to the board for approval also at today’s meeting.
