CPA to take on role of finance director

The school’s finance director position has been filled. The position, formally held by Chief Financial Officer Bill Covington who retired June 30, was filled Monday evening when Halifax County School Board members unanimously approved Jason H. Camp as director of finance for Halifax County Public Schools.

 

Camp, a certified public accountant, previously has worked for Harold D. Camp, CPA, for 14 years, Harris Harvey and Neal for 10 years and for Southside Community Services Board.

Prior to accepting the finance director’s position, he served as auditor for the Halifax County Public School System.

He previously has served as auditor of public accounts in Charlottesville and Lynchburg where he performed audits for state agency grant programs including those at the University of Virginia, University of Virginia Hospital, Blue Ridge Hospital, Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center, cities of Charlottesville, Staunton and Waynesboro and numerous circuit and juvenile and domestic relation courts.

While working for Harold Camp CPA, Camp had clients including the Halifax County Public Schools, Town of South Boston, Halifax Regional Hospital, towns of Clarksville and Clover, YMCA, Halifax Vocational Foundation, Halifax Country Club, Halifax County School Textbook Fund and the Halifax County Joint Committee for Control.

He is a 1975 graduate of Halifax County High School and graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

He is an active member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church where he serves as a choir member, Sunday school teacher and deacon.

Camp also is a member of the Halifax County United Way, South Boston Jaycees and Sons of American Legion.

He is married to Cynthia Camp, and they have a daughter, Jessica, and three grandchildren.
