In addition to filling the position of school superintendent, Halifax County School Board members also are working to find a replacement to fill the vacancy of outgoing Chief Financial Officer Bill Covington who will retire June 30.
According to Covington, an interview committee comprised of four central office staff employees have narrowed the search down to one candidate.
The applicant will be presented to the school board for recommendation at Monday night’s regular scheduled meeting.
The interview committee, comprised of Covington, Executive Director for Administration Valdivia Marshall, Executive Director of Instruction Dr. Melanie Stanley and a member of the finance department, interviewed five applicants.
A total of 14 individuals applied for the position.
“It was a number of good applicants, and it was a tough decision, but we chose the one with the most complete set of attributes,” said Covington.
The school board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the public meeting room at the Mary Bethune office complex.
