South Boston council elections set Tuesday

Three of six members of South Boston Town council are up for re-election when voters go to the polls on Tuesday.

Veteran Councilman Coleman Speece, who also serves as vice-mayor, is seeking his fifth term on council.

W. R. “Bill” Snead is running for his third term on council, while political newcomer Winston Harrell is running for his first full term on council.

All three councilmen are running unopposed.

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot in person for the Tuesday general election is Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Halifax County General Registrar’s Office is located at Mary Bethune Office Complex at 1039 Cowford Road in Halifax.

Office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The registrar’s office will be open Saturday from 9 to 5 p.m., the last day for in-person absentee voting. 

Polls are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
