Police threat ends in arrest

With sirens wailing, Sheriff’s investigators and Virginia State Police cars sped down Highway 501 on Saturday afternoon shortly before 5 p.m. enroute to Denniston Road responding to a report of a man threatening to shoot the first officer who approached him.

School metal detection search turns up only small violations

A metal detection search of 90 percent of the Halifax County High School student body yielded a minimal amount of tobacco products, two cases of marijuana possession, one pocket knife and numerous lighters Thursday, according to South Boston Police Chief Jim Binner.
