Man convicted of destruction of property

A 40-year-old South Boston man, Damon Demetrious Brown, was convicted last Monday of an amended indictment for misdemeanor destruction of property.

The court sentenced Brown to a 12-month suspended jail term, conditioned on his good behavior for 24 months, and it ordered him to pay $2,177.81 restitution, the first payment of $50 due within two months and payment in full due before 12 months.

Maria Lucado Holt, 30, of Virgilina pleaded no contest last Monday to a fourth or subsequent offense of DWI.

Pursuant to a plea agreement with the commonwealth, the court sentenced Holt to five years in prison, with all suspended but one year in jail.

The court ordered the suspended portion of Holt’s sentence be conditioned on her good behavior for five years and ordered her placed on probation for two years.

The court ordered Holt to pay a $1,000 fine and pay a $50 trauma fee, and it also suspended her operator’s license indefinitely.

Karen Anderson Walker, 40, of Halifax pleaded guilty last Monday to a misdemeanor charge for failing to return rental property.

The court withheld its finding of guilt and took the case under advisement for 12 months, ordering Walker to pay $400 restitution to Rent-A-Center at a rate of $50 per month through the court in that time.

Jennifer Casey Lacks, 26, of South Boston had a charge against her for child abuse dismissed last Monday.
